Jesus answered, “I am the way, and
the truth and the life. No one comes to
the Father except through me.”
John 14:6
MVWC believes that everyone was made for and experiences life at its fullest in relationship with God the Father, through Jesus the Son, in the power of the Spirit. We believe salvation is through this relationship and therefore we all can grow in our knowledge and love for God as He also knows us. Knowing God is possible because he has revealed himself to us and spoken to us in his Word. Therefore, in order to grow in my relationship with God I must also learn to engage the Holy Scriptures as part of the rhythm of my life. MVWC believes that Scriptures contain within them all we need to know about God, what is required for salvation, and how-to live-in response to God.
Engaging the Scriptures is key, not just on Sunday morning, but also outside of the Church with others who believe or are exploring faith. 2 Timothy 3:16-17, state, “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It straightens us out and teaches us to do what is right. It is God’s way of preparing us in every way, fully equipped for every good thing God wants us to do.” In other words, we believe that to grow in grace, we must become a community that engages the scriptures so that we learn to listen to them speak to us. Engaging the Scriptures is both an individual (personal devotion) and a community event (we need each other’s insight). In Hebrews 10:25 we are commanded, “Let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage and warn each other, especially now that the day of his [Jesus'] coming back again is drawing near”. We need each other and we learn best within community that is willing to prioritize time together, encourage each other, and help each other work through issues that arise.
